Enlarged veins are called spider or varicose veins. Spider veins are small red, blue or purple veins on the surface of the skin, while varicose veins are larger distended veins that are located somewhat deeper than spider veins. Dr. Hopkins performs TriVex varicose vein removal, a new technique which incorporates components of both liposuction and arthroscopy. It takes about one fourth of the usual time, is more complete than standard vein removal, and seems to have a more rapid recovery.

Laser surgery is another method of treating varicose veins. A laser is a light source that can reduce or eliminate a vein's appearance by a thermal or "warming process." The laser treatment may be combined with another process called sclerotherapy. In some instances the laser treatment may be the only method chosen to treat varicose veins.
